Supervisor Orientation and Foundation

As a public child welfare supervisor in Wisconsin, you have access to an array of professional development opportunities. New child welfare supervisors are required to comply with the DCF 43 training requirements (see a complete explanation of the supervisor training requirements under the “New Supervisor Welcome”). In addition, you have the opportunity to participate in training developed specifically for new supervisors including Supervisor Orientation and Supervisor Foundation training.  Supervisors have different roles and therefore different training needs than child welfare workers.  A series of foundation classes focused on providing information and skill development specifically for supervisors has been developed.

Descriptions of each supervisor foundation course are found in the accordion file to the right. All are posted in PDS Online when they are available for registration. Find the sessions you are interested in attending by searching their titles in PDS Online.

Stepping Up to Supervisor: Orientation for New Supervisors

Supervisor Foundation

“Stepping Up to Supervision” provides information that is most necessary for new supervisors early in their career including: leadership, transitioning into supervision and the four roles of supervisors. This training is a prerequisite to attending Supervisor Foundation Training.   Supervisor Foundation includes a series of four two-day modules that focus on Alfred Kadushin’s model of social work supervision and the four roles of a Child Welfare supervisor:  Administrative, Educational, Supportive and Clinical. Supervisors will learn and practice skills and concepts in a highly interactive setting with their peers. A fifth course, entitled Data Informed Supervision, focuses on using data to guide case practice and program planning.

Supervisor Orientation

The “Stepping Up to Supervision” web-based course must be completed before you are able to register for one of the Supervisor Foundation courses. “Stepping Up to Supervision” is available in PDS Online. You access the training, “request” it to and “launch” it from your transcript, and complete it through this link.
